... fear of the unknown ...

oh my gosh kids!! we are staying at the coolest place in the galapagos ... we are staying at the galapagos safari camp ... we are staying in tents .... it will be so cool ...

smiles, nods, small conversation ... send off a certified check (i got mine at publix grocery store ... there's a bank branch in there ... i think that is totally weird ... convenient, but odd...) ....

weeks later ...
so: how many tents?
e: what?
so: when we go to the galapagos, how many tents do we have?
e: 2
so: why 2?
e: one for daddy and me, one for you three kids
so: that's not safe is it?
e: it's a hotel, honey ... it will be safe ... the tents have floors ... they're called platform tents ... they have beds and bathrooms and furniture ... it'll feel like a hotel room ...
so: how can it feel like a  hotel room if it's a tent?
e: it just will, i'm sure ....
so: is it in the jungle?
e: well .... i'm not exactly sure if they call it jungle ... or the woods ... or ... um ... the yard ... the yard of the hotel ... the grounds ... the hotel grounds .... there will be a lot of trees, you'll like it ....
so: i REALLY don't understand how that can be a hotel ... last summer we stayed in a hotel and all shared one room
(that was the embassy suites in DC ... suite sleeps five)
e: there are no tent suites .... tents can't sleep five ...
so: what if i need you?
e: what do you want to do if you need me? ( i knew i couldn't say come and get me)
so: i want to send drew to go get you ... maybe we need flashlights since we'll be in tents in a jungle....(at least she was thinking about drew's well being here)
e: i think you could just yell HEY MOM I NEED YOU ...
so: you'll be able to hear me?
e: i think so ... it's just tents ... and i think our tents will be close together ...
so: what if i don't know where your tent is?
e: i think you will ... when we get there, we'll look all around so you can figure it out .... i'm sure there are paths ... or maybe even boardwalks or walkways ... probably not sidewalks .... and we'll walk from the main part of the hotel where we'll eat to our tents ... and then figure out what else there is to find ... like the pool ...
so: our tent has a pool?
e: the hotel with tents has a pool
so: a pool in the jungle with the tents
e: yep
so: ok ... that'll be ok then .... but let's take flashlights too ....
